What to know before buying pool equipment

  • Variable-speed pumps pay for themselves. A VS pump uses up to 90% less energy than a single-speed. At $0.15/kWh, the savings often cover the pump in 1–2 seasons — and many utilities offer rebates.
  • Size salt systems 1.5–2x your pool volume. An oversized cell runs fewer hours per day and lasts years longer. See our salt system sizing guide.
  • Cartridge vs sand vs DE: cartridge filters the finest and needs no backwashing; sand is cheapest and simplest; DE filters finest of all but needs more maintenance.

Compatibility matters: pumps, filters, heaters, and salt systems all need to match your pool's flow rate and plumbing size. When in doubt, check the manufacturer's sizing chart — or ask us.
